So, for pharmacy school we are required to shadow a faculty member for 40 hours as they do their clinical...stuff. I shadowed Dr. Carr today. She is very awesome, and much to my relief, I was not forced to prick anyone's finger or look at anything gross. Yay! We had to drive about a million miles away out to Melba, Idaho because Glenda works out there once a month and today was that day. The scariest moment of the day was when one of the Physician's Assistants came in the room and asked me what the oral bioavailability of cyanocobalamin was in comparison to the injectable. I fumbled around on my drug reference sites for about 30 minutes until Glenda came in and helped me. I decided today that I really need to learn spanish, or sign language, or both for this job. We had a nurse translate to a patient for us and it was hard to grasp everything that was going on.
Oh, and for the record, 1000mcg QD is a high enough dose to absorb a days worth of B12 without intrinsic factor. Anymore would just be excreted. ;)
